The lead Globe and Mail story on-line right now is: Canada-China Trade Agreement to Protect Investors: Harper.

Protect investors?

Elsewhere in the paper, HERE, is the shocking story of a Canadian citizen, an analyst covering Silvercorp Metals, being arrested in China.  The story in worthy of a good novel.

You will recall Silvercorp, a Chinese company listed in Canada, was not so long ago the subject of a short seller attack.  The analyst has apparently been arrested for being a critic of the company in connection with the shorts.

If that isn’t appalling enough, how about this:  it appears the Globe and Mail has ample evidence to show that Silvercorp has orchestrated and funded the investigation and arrest of the analyst.

I wonder if Canadian regulators will take a pass on this or whether they will protect investors and focus their attention on Silvercorp’s alleged intimidation of the capital markets.
